May 1, 2005 18:15 - Abortions in the News
Two abortion stories are currently in the news. One story is about a woman who wanted her baby aborted. First, the baby was to be injected with a substance to stop his heart. Then she was to go through labor and birth. Rowan would be stillborn. However, Rowan was born alive. No-one at the clinic helped keep him alive. The mother was, after all, in an abortion clinic. Keeping babies alive is not their business. The pictures and story are heart breaking. The other story is about a young woman who, at 16, wanted her twin babies aborted. She was told after the abortion that her womb was empty and the abortion was successful. 33 weeks into her pregnancy, she was told that one of the twins, baby Jayde, was still alive. Jayde was born and she's now 3. The mother is furious and says the hospital messed up. She wants $600,000 as settlement for this child she didn't want. How is she going to explain this to Jayde? How does that little child feel now? We have five children because three mothers didn't have abortions. Our joy is their pain I guess. And on every birthday our kids celebrate, I also grieve for their biological mothers' pains and heartaches. We love all our children, but love doesn't make everthing all right again. Some pain just never goes away. I'm not saying what my beliefs and feelings are about abortion. For every strongly held belief one person has there is an equally strong, opposing belief in another. Situations of women vary and, by god, I've seen children living in hell holes and with parents who hate them, and I wish those babies had never been born so they didn't have to suffer so much. Last week I found out that a little girl born nine years ago is probably my granddaughter. We're getting paternity tests so we'll know for sure. But even so, this has caused pain for another child. I just want all the pain to go away. I don't want little children to hurt and suffer any more. I believe that we're merely human -- all of us -- those who have abortions and those who don't -- those who abuse their children and those who don't. I don't believe mere humans can't fix this whole mess. I just wish none of God's children had to suffer anymore -- and that means all of us.
May 2, 2005 03:08 - Children Born to Help Siblings
British couples will now be legally allowed to create babies through in vitro fertilization to help cure sick siblings. In Britain, you are now allowed to create babies, with in vitro fertilization, to help cure ill brothers and sisters. Britain's highest appeal court rejected an appeal and has given the go-ahead to a 2003 Court of Appeal ruling. Now couples can have their embryos screened and choose one that has the tissue needed to cure sick siblings. One one side, we all don't want our children to be seriously ill, so this would be a godsend. On the other side, there is always the fear that humans will take a wonderful technology and use it in a disastrous way -- like just creating babies for spare parts. Both side of this question have good points to make. What do you think? Get More Info
