Baby Names, News & Tips

Perfect Baby Names : Baby Blog : March 2006

March 8, 2006 14:28 - Celebrities are Thinking About Baby Names

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are discussing baby names. Tom has been throwing around the names Ron and Hubbard (oh, oh ... old mother hubbard went to the cupboard) after L. Ron Hubbard who founded the Scientology religion. Katie is worried kids will tease the baby if he has a name like "Hubbard". She's more conservative in her name choices -- like "Martin", after her father. However, there's bad blood between Tom Cruise and Katie's father, so that name probably won't happen!

Tom Cruise's full name is Thomas Cruise Mapother IV. Perhaps their new little one be "the fifth"?

Rachel Weisz and Darron Aronofsky -- Rachel won her first academy award. But she says the baby definitely won't be called Oscar.

Geri Halliwell, former Spice girl, says she'll name her boy "Leonardo" or her girl "Stella". Both nice names. This will be her second child.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie -- Brad stars in a film "The Assassination of Jessee James" and wants to name his child after his character in the film. So a girl would be Jess and a boy would be James. No fruit or flower names for Brad Pitt! I just don't see howJess or James will fit in with the siblings' names -- Maddox and Zahara. We'll see what happens!

March 29, 2006 14:06 - Chinese Baby Names Restricted

"Parents in China can no longer name their children anything they want. The government will begin restricting new name registrations to common characters."

The reason for this is the country is distributing country-wide electronic identity cards in 2008. Obscure Chinese characters can no longer be handwritten on the identity cards.

Children's names will be restricted to less than 27,000 characters in total.

My question is: What will they do with the people already named some of the obsure Chinese characters? Change their names?
