For at least 6 years the most popular Texas baby names have been Jose and Emily. In 2003, the most popular girl baby name . Emily . was also the most popular baby name overall in the United States. On the other hand, Jose ranked only number 28 overall. The remaining top 5 Texas baby names for boys and girls were all ranked in the top 15 nationally. There has been very little variation in the top 5 Texas Boy and Girl baby names in six years. Jose, Jacob, Joshua, Christopher, and Michael have been consistently popular names for boys with Tyler, Zachary, and Daniel each making the list once. For girls, Emily, Ashley, and Alexis have been in the top 5 baby names all six years. Madison has made the list the last four years with Alyssa (three times), Samantha (twice), Hannah (twice), and Sarah rounding out the top Texas girl baby names. Contrast these with the most popular baby names a century earlier: John, William, James, George, and Joseph along with Mary, Helen, Margaret, Anna, and Ruth.
