There are people actually discussing how old is too old for a woman to become a mother. ''The committee was grappling with the needs of the parents vs the needs of the child, and that would take a Solomon to solve," said Dr. Randy Glassman, director of women's psychiatric services at the Brigham.
They don’t just discuss medical data. They are looking at the minds of women bearing children after the ages of 55. The older women get the more risk the pregnancy has.
However, 'There's a basic right to procreation" said Alice Domar, a psychologist and director of the Mind-Body Center for Women's Health at Boston IVF, the country's biggest fertility clinic. And yet, ''I think every child born into this world deserves to have its mother see it into adulthood."
There is no hard and fast rule on age from doctors and medical persons. In Pennsylvania some doctors are calling for an age limit on those requesting help to conceive children.
