Just like in other countries, Scottish baby names are changing. Experts believe the reasons names are becoming so unique and less traditional are the extinction of the extended family, the variety of ethnic cultures in societies, and the acceptance of unique celebrity names. From 1994 to 1998, Ryan was the most popular boys' name in Scotland. Then, "Jack" stepped in for four years. 2003 and 2004 saw Lewis as the top Scottish baby name for boys.
And the girls? Chloe was the favourite Scottish baby name for a number of years until 2003. In 2003 and 2004, Emma was the top name for baby girls.
