Uncommon Baby Names?

How to be Sure
Your Baby Loves the Names you Choose

Psychologists write about the effects of uncommon baby names on children all the time.

The trouble is ... some psychologists say naming your child uncommon baby names is good because your child grows up feeling unique and special

Other psychologists state you should be very careful about using uncommon baby names because your child will feel too different from other kids, and will possibly hate their name and who they are!

Some rules and advice about uncommon unique baby names make sense to me because of my personal experiences with a very different, uncommon name -- Glennys (Glen-iss rhymes with Dennis ... err ... the Menace)  ;o)

A Few Important Rules When Choosing Uncommon Baby Names

  1. Tell your child why you chose their name.  Make sure it's not "just because we liked the name".

  2. If the reason you chose their uncommon baby names is just because you like the names, explain to them why you wanted their names to be different and unique. For example -- you didn't want them to have the same name as five other kids in school; you want them to know they are special.

  3. Help them learn how to deal with bullies who will make fun of their names.  For example, teach them Bill Cosby's way of dealing with bullies -- "Ha, ha -- you're name is _______?  What a stupid name .... Answer:  "So what?"

  4. Build their self-esteem.  You named them an uncommon, unique name -- now help them know they are special and unique.

  5. Teach them how to deal with having to spell and pronounce their name to every new person they meet or talk to.

OK -- now I'm asking you for your help. Click here to send your thoughts about helping kids learn to love their own, unique, uncommon baby names.  Thanks!

P.S. Digby Jones, an ebook author, has an interesting story to tell. He describes his experiences growing up with an uncommon baby name.  This ebook is an good source for choosing the perfect, best names for your baby.

I really don't like the picture on the cover (it's of a baby crying), but the ebook is excellent.  So if you're looking for happy babies, don't click this link.

However, ebooks are purchased for the words, right?
